ABOUT US

The idea of forming Association of Indian Ophthalmic Anaesthesiologists, AIOA, was mainly mooted from Ophthalmic Forum of Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists, OFISA, affiliated to Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (ISA).

OFISA was officially inaugurated by Prof. Chris Dodds, Academic Department of Anaesthesia, The James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, UK on December 27th 2009 at Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai, India. Prof.Chandra M Kumar, Academic Department of Anaesthesia, The James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, UK, Dr G V Rao, Director, ORBIS International, India, Dr Babu Rajendran, President, All India Ophthalmological Society and Dr Manjushree Ray, President ISA were the guests of honour for the inaugural function.

OFISA so far conducted FIVE International Ophthalmic Anaesthesia Conference, OFISACON, once in two years from the year 2011 to 2019. OIFSA also issued Newsletter bi-annually to all the members.

Following its huge success and requests from the members, anaesthesiologists from leading eye institute all over India, joined together and established this Association of Indian Ophthalmic Anaesthesiologists, AIOA registered under Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act.

On June 2020, AIOA was registered under Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act.

AIMS

To bring all Ophthalmic Anaesthesiologists spread throughout the Country into contact with one another with a view to establish a relation of friendship and goodwill towards one another so that they can have exchange of thoughts and views.
To maintain the highest standards in the ethics and practice of Ophthalmic anaesthesia
To encourage education, research and scientific progress in Ophthalmic anaesthesia
To give adequate training to those who are properly qualified and intend to take up this sub specialty
To disseminate information with regard to Ophthalmic anaesthesia
To establish a forum for exchange and interchange of views and for enhancing fellowship amongst its members.
To assist in the establishment of Ophthalmic Anaesthesia as an important subspecialty
To improve Ophthalmic Anaesthesia services in General
To carry out all such activities as would contribute to the promotion of Ophthalmic Anaesthesiology for the use of public at large
To affiliate with international bodies for promotion of mutual exchange of knowledge amongst the members and professional colleagues all over the World
To establish Information Exchange Centre, Reading Room and Library of books & periodicals and other literatures for the use of the members
To serve as a nucleus, for exchange of ideas and information to further the cause of the Association
To organise National conference, seminars, Symposiums, meetings, discussions, debates, tour etc., for the furtherance of the aim and objectives of the Association.
To set up Technical/Legal Team among the members consisting of Consultants, Senior Members/Advocates to guide and assist the members
To edit and publish publication in the field of Ophthalmic anaesthesia, by bringing out Indian Journal of Ophthalmic Anaesthesia (IJOA), bi-annually, to be distributed to all members registered in the Association.
To do all such other things as are incidental and are conducive to the attainment of the above objects or any of them.
